I bought a Bette Midler album(yes, I know……get over it) (produced by Barry Manilow…….shut up) last week and fell head over heels fcr “Is That All There Is?”. The entire album is old Peggy Lee songs (did I tell you to shut up?!?!); but this one is especially well done and pretty much ‘hit home’ for me. (All verses are spoken.)
Is That All There Is?
I remember when I was a girl
Our house caught on fire
And I’ll never forget the look on my father’s face
As he gathered me in his arms
And raced to the burning building out on the pavement
And I stood there shivering
And watched the whole world go up in flames
And when it was all over
I said to myself
” Is that all there is to a fire ? ”
Is that all there is?
Is that all there is?
If that’s all there is, my friends, then let’s keep dancing
Let’s break out the booze and have a ball
If that’s all there is
And when I was twelve years old
My daddy took me to the circus
The greatest show on earth
And there were clowns
And elephants
Dancing bears,
And a beautiful lady in pink tights flew high above our heads
And as I sat there watching
I had the feeling that something was missing
I don’t know what
But when it was all over
I said to myself
” Is that all there is to the circus ? ”
Is that all there is?
If that’s all there is, my friends, then let’s keep dancing
Let’s break out the booze and have a ball
If that’s all there is
And then I fell in love
With the most wonderful boy in the world
We’d take long walks down by the river
Or just sit for hours gazing into each other’s eyes
We were so very much in love
And then one day
He went away
And I thought I’d die
But I didn’t
And when I didn’t
I said to myself
” Is that all there is to love ? ”
Is that all there is?
If that’s all there is, my friends, then let’s keep…..
I know what you must be saying to yourselves
If that’s the way she feels about it
Then why doesn’t she just end it all
Oh no. not me. I’m not ready for the final disappointment
‘Cause I know just as well as I’m standing here talking to you
That when that final moment comes
And I’m breathing my last breath
I know what I’ll be saying to myself
” Is that all there is ? ”
Is that all there is?
If that’s all there is, my friends, then let’s keep dancing
Let’s break out the booze and have a ball
If that’s all there is

Pooter, our long-haired dachsund got a new bed not long ago. Her old, wicker bed with lamb’s wool lining had seen better days; so, it got thrown out, along with her blankets, in favor of a cushy, more fitted, style bed. The Prof thought she looked cold (how does a dog ‘look cold’?) the other night and I awoke to find a towel in bed with her. Now that is NOT chic; so, off I went to Target in search for another blanket.
I opted for this cute Winnie the Pooh (Pooh for Pooter…get it?) receiving blanket:

When John came home from swim practice, he picked up Pooter’s new blanket, rubbed it against his face and said “I want one of these!” When I told him it was a baby receiving blanket, he quickly changed his mind.
However, he called Pooter, told her to get in bed, then painstakingly wrapped her in the blanket so just her head was peeking out. He said “Mom, come look at the little baby” (in the cutest little baby voice you’ve ever heard).
Despite the typical teenage angst we face and withstand each day, there was my baby boy, smiling down at a dog he’d just wrapped in a baby blanket and saying “widdle” and “wook”.
That’s when it happened………..I realized my heart was grinning…….. from rib to rib.

We heard about this one the news a couple of nights ago. I had to stop and think for a sec or two as to what a ‘Monkey Organ’ was; but I finally got the picture and decided to check it out on the net.
The Prof’s son goes to school in Marietta; I’m thinking we need a day trip to the Monkey Organ Rally on Saturday!

Mudhouse Mansion is supposedly haunted. The most popular story goes that a government official who lived there after the Civil War still kept slaves. He was very cruel to them, he would lock them in one of the outbuildings every night. One slave was fed up with the cruel treatment, and one night he dug his way out, entered the house, and murdered the entire family. The family and the slaves who lived there haunt the house today.

Picture courtesy of The Prof who snapped it this afternoon.

October 8, 2005 was my baby boy’s first OFFICIAL Homecoming date and dance. I say “official” because he’s been to other homecomings and has even had dates; however, this was the first where he went all out with all new clothes, roses, dinner, etc.
John and I went to Easton on Saturday, October 1 to the Express where we found a beautiful shirt, sweater and wool suit.
He had a blast with his friend, Shana (not girlfriend, JUST friend…..he tells me). I was/am so proud of him.
